This tour is a road trip around the best of Bhutan, it takes in a circuit beginning and ending in the city of Paro. One of the major highlights of this tour is a visit to the stunning Taktsang Monastery, better known as the tiger’s nest. Detailed Itinerary:
Day 01. Arrive Paro (By Druk Air flight): The flight into Paro on our national carrier, Druk Air, is a befitting introduction to the spectacular beauty of our country. In clear weather, magnificent views of the world’s highest peaks, give way to the lush green Paro valley as you land. Your Bhutanese escort will greet you on arrival and then drive to Thimphu. Dinner and Overnight in Hotel at Thimphu.
Day 02. Thimphu – Bumthang: (9 hrs drive). After breakfast, drive to Bumthang. Dinner and Overnight in Hotel at Bumthang.
Day 03. Jakar – Nagang Lakhang: The trekking route follows the Chamkhar Chu river, coming across many villages and temples. This is a very easy and relaxing day. Arrive at the village camp at an altitude of 2900 meters. Walking time around 6 hours.
Day 04: Ngang Lhakang – Ugyenchholing: The trail ascends gradually towards the Phephe la pass, going through the forest of junipers until you arrive at the pass at an altitude 3340 meters. After the pass descends to Tang valley, finally arriving at Ugyenchholing village. Camp by the side of the river at the altitude of 2850 meters. Walking time 7-8 hours.
Day 05. Ugenchholing – Jakar: Morning walk up to the Ugyenchholing dzong and the surrounding village, then drive to Jakar following the Tang chu river until you arrive at the main road junction. On the way visit the Membertsho Lake, where Terton Pema Lingpa, the reincarnation of Guru Padmasambhava is supposed to have discovered religious treasure in the 12th century. This lake is very sacred and is visited by many Bhutanese during auspicious days to offer butter lamps. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 06. Bumthang – Paro: One day Drive to reach Paro. Dinner and Overnight in Hotel at Paro.
Day 07. Departure. Early morning, drive to the airport and farewell.
